Last week, a vicious mail and digital ad program launched across the ward spreading lies about my commitments to our community. These mailers were sent by the Get Stuff Done PAC, which is funded by wealthy hedge fund managers, Republicans, and Rahm Emanuel advisors. Let’s get one thing straight: the old Chicago political establishment is trying to interfere with the 48th Ward election. And we won’t let them succeed.

I’ve been clear about my public safety platform from day one: everyone deserves to feel safe in their homes, schools, workplaces, and community. I believe we put too many responsibilities on the police to solve all of society’s problems.

Chicago’s leaders have long favored a punitive approach to safety that criminalizes peoples’ personal crises, leads to more violence, and makes neighborhoods more fearful. It’s time to try care-based strategies that get to the roots of violence in our communities.

Make no mistake: the shady Get Stuff Done PAC is spending thousands of dollars on vicious attack ads because they know I won’t be business as usual. They know I will fight for working and middle class people. And they know our people-powered campaign has the best chance of winning.
