Nick Ward for 48th Ward Alderman Earns Key Labor Endorsements from Illinois Nurses Association and Cook County College Teachers Union, Local 1600

Edgewater, Chicago, IL -- Candidate for 48th Ward Alderman Nick Ward announced endorsements from Illinois Nurses Association (INA) and Cook County College Teachers Union, Local 1600 (CCCTU).

INA and CCCTU join a growing list of organizations and elected officials that are supporting Ward in the 2023 election because they understand he is the candidate most committed to working people in Chicago. He is endorsed by the independent political organization 48th Ward Neighbors for Justice, Chicago Democratic Socialists of America, Northside Democracy for America, and Alderman Daniel La Spata. Ward entered the race for 48th Ward Alderman in January 2022 and has since raised over $112,000 and knocked over 14,000 doors.

INA President Tori Dameron said: INA is proud to endorse Nick Ward because he always shows up for working people. Nick has supported organizing workers at Howard Brown every step of the way, from attending rallies to donating to the strike fund to inviting organizers to speak at campaign events. We know Nick will fight for nurses and workers when elected because he understands how aldermen can use their power in City Council and at the ward level to support the people, not special interests.”

CCCTU Legislative Chair Troy Swanson said: "Nick Ward is a candidate who understands the role that public education plays in building strong communities. More importantly, Nick is willing to do the work to bring people together and to address the issues that we face. We need a City Council committed to residents so that Chicago can be an equitable home for all of us. We are proud to support him as a candidate for the 48th Ward."

Ward said of INA and CCCTUs’ endorsements: “I’m honored to receive endorsements from INA and CCCTU. As the son of two unionized public school teachers, I was raised to believe unions are the key to a good paying job, fair wages, and a dignified life. Strong nurses’ and teachers’ unions don’t only benefit their members, but also patients, students, their families, and the community. I am always proud to stand with INA and CCCTU, and I will continue to fight for them when I’m elected to City Council.”

INA represents 4,500 members across Illinois. Non-nursing workers at Howard Brown Health recently joined INA in a wall-to-wall unionizing effort with over 97% of workers voting yes.

CCCTU Local 1600 represents over 5,000 members in 23 chapters in Cook County. The union represents faculty members, professional employees, classified employees, retirees and adjuncts within the local.
