Candidate for 48th Ward Alderman Nick Ward Announces Community Town Hall to Address Recent Traffic Violence

CHICAGO, Illinois — Candidate for 48th Ward Alderman Nick Ward announces an upcoming town hall and listening session on pedestrian and cyclist safety on Monday, June 20th at 6:30pm. The event will be held on the front lawn of Senn High School at 5900 N Glenwood. For any accessibility or press requests, contact Jamie Cernek, Campaign Manager, at [email protected] by 6/18.

Chicago is a city with robust public transportation and cycling options that many rely on every day, yet has seen a rising number of accidents involving cars striking and killing bikers and pedestrians, including two toddlers in Lincoln Square and Uptown within just days of each other.

Investing in bike- and pedestrian- centered infrastructure benefits all Chicagoans. Bikes are an environmentally friendly mode of transportation, an increasingly important consideration as we see record setting weather events more and more frequently due to climate change. Bike-centered infrastructure includes slowing or re-routing cars, keeping streets and sidewalks safer for pedestrians, especially around schools and in residential zones.

Ward relies heavily on biking and walking as his main modes of transportation and knows first hand how much more dangerous biking has become recently. Ward says: “Enough is enough. Everyone deserves to feel safe on our streets and sidewalks. This community town hall aims to bring together neighbors to envision a ward where everyone can travel safely to errands, work and school, and to enjoy all that our beautiful neighborhood has to offer.” Ward welcomes the chance to share his vision for the future with neighbors, as well as listening to what they would hope for in a city that prioritizes the safety of all Chicagons.

All are welcome and invited to bring their own lawn chairs and blankets to sit comfortably, as this event will be outside. RSVP at https://www.nickward48.com/safe_streets_townhall
